Recycled OOTW & Why You Should Recycle Fashion

Happy weekend, yawls!!!! My OOTW & Recycled Kelley Nicole Collection Handbags video is now up!

Screen Shot 2016-05-14 at 6.29.17 PM.pngIn this vid, I featured my latest fave way to design and wear half harem/half shorts, that I recycled out of a size 10 vintage velvet dress! For lack of a better way to describe them, I’m calling them asymmetrical harem pants. I will be designing lots of these in different fabrics/patterns.Screen Shot 2016-05-14 at 8.37.31 PM.png

The handbags were made by recycling my old leather skirts & belts that just sat in my closet collecting dust.

Did you know?

Recycling unwanted clothing reduces landfill waste as well as the amount of resources needed to produce new clothing. It also lessens the waste produced by the manufacturing process — clothing scraps end up in the landfill, too. Used clothing can be donated, sold or disassembled for the fabric. Americans discard an estimated 68 pounds of clothing a year, while buying 10 pounds of recycled clothes.  About 99 percent of what is thrown away can be recycled. Clothing and household textiles, consisting of fabrics such as cotton, polyester, nylon and rayon, make up almost 5 percent of the total garbage in landfills. (Source: SF Gate, Lexa W. Lee)

I like to recycle belts and use them as straps on my recycled handbag designs.
