L.A. Colors: I <3 Makeup: Eyes [MATTE]R Palette! (25 matte shades!)

LA Colors I ❤ Makeup Eyes [MATTE]R Palette | 25 matte shades!
SO, over the weekend I stumbled upon this $4.99 L.A. Colors Eyes [MATTE]R palette!  This is one of the biggest all matte palettes I have ever seen at the drugstore.  I still cannot believe that it comes with 25 matte shades for only $4.99!  The matte formula palette looks nothing like the $1 three-pan metallic (and uber-pigmented) palettes from LA Colors.  If you want to see the richly pigmented metallic formula I am referring to, click here for the LA Color swatches in one of my past videos.  However, these mattes do look similar to the matte shades in the small $1 six-pan LA Colors Bold eyes palettes, that I hauled and reviewed last month.  I also love those palettes!  Click here to see Bold Eye palette swatches in action. There is literally nothing to be found online about this mystery I ❤ Makeup Eyes [MATTE]R palette.  Zilch reviews.  Zero online retailers (not listed on the LA Colors website either). NADA a whole lotta I could find, which makes me wonder if this is just a holiday exclusive. That all said, I will be as detailed as possible for you guys with my review.

Before we get into the nitty-gritty, let’s go over the cute I ❤ Makeup packaging.  ADORABLE.

img_0783
LA Colors I ❤ Makeup Palette packaging is adorable!

The case is convenient because it is plastic with snap closure. However, the plastic is on the cheaper, flimsier side. No biggie though, as it beats cheap cardboard. Inside, you do get a mirror & the plastic tray that the shadows are glued into is removable.  This tray could easily be pulled out when you use up all of the shades.  In which case, you could easily recycle it into a z-palette.  Also included is a double-sided brush with a sponge tip applicator on one end, and a small (like it could be a lip brush kinda small), synthetic concealer type brush on the other end.

img_0795
Included in the I ❤ Makeup all matte palette, is a doubled ended brush.

A tiny concealer brush for mattes?  Random. Is that supposed to be the smudger? I’ve never smudged with a concealer brush, but who knows, maybe it will work! Ha!  On the back of the palette is a how-to makeup instruction guide, which is great if you are just beginning with makeup.

img_0774-2
On the back of the palette is a how-to makeup guide. Great palette for beginners!

In terms of the palette height and width dimensions, it is about 1 inch wider & 1 inch taller than a UD Naked palette.  This is a very sleek & thin palette as well (slightly thinner than a Naked palette).  4 of the 25 shades in this all matte palette are labeled “Define” and “Base” shades,

img_0809-3
4 of the 25 shades are labeled as “Define” and “Base” shades.  The 2 darker shades in this group are also great for brows.

with pan sizes nearly twice the size of the rest of the shades.  The color selection in this palette is absolutely PERFECT and complimentary to all skin tones.  It comes with an array of neutrals & dark shades in both warm & cool tones.  With plenty of transition shades & a few pops of color to choose from, you can create any look with this palette (without the use of shimmers that is ;). Re: the formula, I am always hesitant of matte eye shades in uber-cheap palettes, as they can sometimes be chalky or lacking pigmentation. But to the touch, these shadows feel very silky and smooth, surprisingly enough.  There were a few chalky shades that required a fudging off of the chalky overspray layer, but once removed they worked out fine. Impressively, there is no fallout.

img_0851
Swatches (without a primer) of the 15 pan shadow section of the LA Colors I ❤ Makeup Eyes [MATTE]R palette
There are a couple of shades in this palette that apply like a satin matte (i.e. the white/cream shade, far left swatch, in the below photo of 6 swatched shades), which I LOVE.  The satin matte shades in this palette are stunning for the brow bone.  As you can see in the swatches, the darker shades are a dreammmm!! img_0814-2When swatched, a few of the lightest shades are definitely the weakest, in terms of pigmentation.  But when used with a primer, they are great base/blending shades. Otherwise, without a primer, the lighter shades just blend to nothing.  The weakest color in this palette is, by far, the deep purple shade (2nd to last swatch on my arm, and the 2nd to last pan shade in bottom row (below arm).  It just did not want to swatch AT ALL.  But when swatched on a primer, it swatches much better and blends easily.  Further, it applies more like a grey purple, rather than the deep purple in the pan (but works out great because I prefer purples with grey undertones).  The darker shades in this palette are soooo amazingly pigmented!!! All of the shades blend amazing. img_0748If I had to compare this palette to another, I would say the silky smooth, no-fallout formula reminds me a lot of ELF’s Mad For Mat te palette.  With the LA Colors matte palette, you do get more than double the amount of shades than the ELF palette, & for half the price!  If I I had to narrow down my fave shades it would be the brick, the grey/black, the taupes, light bluish grey, & the light yellow shades.  LOVE them!!! In the smokey eye look I created with this palette using the light yellow, teal, & grey/black shades, I also used a mixture of the two darker “Define” shades for my brows.  The darker “Define” shades could not be more purrrrrrfect for brows! For $5 and some change, this palette is brilliant!  img_0734I am SO sorry that this palette is a complete online MYSTERY!!! Hopefully you can find it in the holiday makeup section of your nearest Rite Aide (where I found mine). Another place to check might be the Dollar Tree, as they tend to carry a lot from the LA Colors line.  It would be amazing if they came out more palettes like this one!! A metallic one would be rad!!!!!  I hope you guys enjoyed this review!  If you do go on the hunt for this palette, please let me know if you find it!  I’ll keep my eyes peeled for you!!! Have a beautiful week! ❤ ❤ ~Kelle

TGIF, everyone!!  I hope everyone had a beautiful week and also hope you have a rockin weekend to come!  If you like comedy, then you will surely enjoy seeing me be at the devices of my fingers in the NO Makeup Brushes Challenge!  Thank you to my amazing subscriber, Nonie, for suggesting that I do this fun full faced makeup look without any brushes!  I loved the way the look turned out! In this video I also share with you one of my eyebrow tricks for creating a cool modeling look that I like to wear a lot. Simply drag your brow pencil a little more towards the bare area between your brows to rock your inner Elvis!  Whilst applying this makeup look with my fingers, I also discovered a few cool new makeup tricks!  I discovered a great new way to get super-duper smooth under-eyes.  Who knew that applying the silky Wet N’ Wild banana powder from the Dulce de Leche contour palette under the eye without a brush (for the first time ever), would give the absolute smoothest finish!!! It made my under-eyes look airbrushed! Anywho, I hope you have as much fun watching this video, as I did filming it! Thanks again, Nonie, for the request! Your support is always so amazing!!! I will be announcing the winner of the Beatles music giveaway this upcoming weekend, or at the very latest, on Monday Sept 26, 2016.  To enter, be sure to see my giveaway video!  Good luck, everyone!!!  XO ~Kelle

Recycled Blanket OOTW

Hi guys! Here is this week’s RECYCLED OOTW! I designed the Posh sweater, pants, & vest by recycling a wool blanket & leather coat. Also featured in this video is a new Kelley Nicole Collection handbag design, recycled from a leather skirt.  Here are before photos of the wool blanket (in cut up pieces) and long skirt:

Here is the after photo of the handbag recycled from the leather skirt:

The skirt was enough leather to make 2 huge handbags!  Lastly, a few shots of the recycled plaid outfit I made from the wool blanket, featured in the video:

3 Non-Hair Flat Iron Tips | Designing

Hi guys,  I designed this pink lace top a few weeks ago and have been meaning to post its correlating diy video, that features a few of my quick designing tips.  So hereeeeee are 3 of my favorite non-hair uses for a hair flat iron 🙂

Quick Tip #1:  Flat irons are a great tool for ironing out your hems & seams after sewing.  A flat iron with customized temperatures allows you to lower the temperature for ironing more delicate fabrics.

Quick Tip #2:  When traveling, hair flat irons make great clothing irons .  How many times have we opened our suitcases to find our pressed clothes wrinkled again!?  Flat irons are compact, and get the clothing wrinkles out STAT style.

Quick Tip #3:  Crush velvet with a flat iron by accordion folding the area of fabric you want crushed, and then iron the accordion folds with your flat iron.  Voila, crushed velvet!

When it comes to designing, traveling (& my hair), I cannot go without a flat iron! For you home & lifestyle lovers out there here is another DIY tip!  The wicker chair in the photo below had seen better days.  It was severely peeled and frayed on every foot of the chair.  I like the look of frayed wood, however, this was the pokey kind of fraying and I have little dogs.  To better conceal the fraying wood, I recycled khaki jeans and cut off four strips of the khaki, & then tied each strip as a bow on the chair’s bottom legs.  She’s as good as new now!  I absolutely love filming my YouTube videos from that chair!  Hope you guys find my designing tips useful, my loves!  Have a great rest of the week!  XO ~Kelle

Well of course you look smokin in those jeans, dahhhhhhling!!!  But before throwing out the old to find room in your closet for the new jeans, please remember to donate or recycle them. Throwing them out lends them to the filling up of our landfills. Landfills are not a closet!

maple
Memes says: there are dogs just like me that get cold easy and need clothes, too.  Recycling is a PAWSOME way to create them! ❤

A staggering amount of fabric & clothing items contribute to landfill waste.  MILLIONS of TONS (the weight of just one ton is equivalent to 2000 pounds!! Millions of TONS is mind-blowing!!!) of clothing are thrown out every year, making their way to our landfills.  Did you know clothing waste is not biodegradable & releases methane gas, a harmful greenhouse gas, into the environment?  By donating and/or recycling your jeans and unwanted clothing, instead of throwing them away, you help sustain our precious environment. People and pets in need would love a pair of what you might be contemplating throwing out.  Here is my latest video, where I show you how to recycle your unused jeans into dog clothes.

Hopefully the video will help you conjure up some creative ways to upcycle your unwanted clothing items.

Recycled OOTW & Why You Should Recycle Fashion

Happy weekend, yawls!!!! My OOTW & Recycled Kelley Nicole Collection Handbags video is now up!

Screen Shot 2016-05-14 at 6.29.17 PM.pngIn this vid, I featured my latest fave way to design and wear half harem/half shorts, that I recycled out of a size 10 vintage velvet dress! For lack of a better way to describe them, I’m calling them asymmetrical harem pants. I will be designing lots of these in different fabrics/patterns.Screen Shot 2016-05-14 at 8.37.31 PM.png

The handbags were made by recycling my old leather skirts & belts that just sat in my closet collecting dust.

Did you know?

Recycling unwanted clothing reduces landfill waste as well as the amount of resources needed to produce new clothing. It also lessens the waste produced by the manufacturing process — clothing scraps end up in the landfill, too. Used clothing can be donated, sold or disassembled for the fabric. Americans discard an estimated 68 pounds of clothing a year, while buying 10 pounds of recycled clothes.  About 99 percent of what is thrown away can be recycled. Clothing and household textiles, consisting of fabrics such as cotton, polyester, nylon and rayon, make up almost 5 percent of the total garbage in landfills. (Source: SF Gate, Lexa W. Lee)

Happy Mother’s Day Giveaway, Anniversary, & Michael’s Haul!

Hi guys!  I hope you all had a beautiful Mother’s Day!  I want to start out by saying CONGRATS to my subscriber, Vicky, on winning the Kat Von D makeup giveaway!!!!  So happy for you!!!  ❤ ❤ ❤  Also thank to my supporters & new subscribers over the past week-and-half!!  Your support has been some serious EPIC-NESS!!!  Thank you so much!!!  In yesterday’s vlog, I announced my Mother’s Day Giveaway winner, celebrated our anniversary at Michael’s, & shared my Michael’s haul.  Also, hear more about how I designed a versatile handbag by recycling a leather skirt into a slouchy clutch/tote/shoulder bag!  The great thing about recycling skirts into handbags, is that there is the perfect amount of fabric for  creating the perfect-sized handbag.  I went to Michael’s to pick up some leather-work tools, a zipper, & some other designing items.  Three hours later, I made my way out of one of my favorite stores ever!  I think I am going to add some silver hardware closures to the top of the bag.  The bag could get by without a closure, however, I think the silver closures will give it some extra funk. Hope you enjoy the vlog!  For those whose hearts were set on winning the Kat Von D makeup, never fear!!  There will be lots of giveaways on my channel, so please be sure to subscribe for your chances to win.  You can enter as many of my giveaways as you would like! :)))  Wishing everyone a gorgeous week, ahead!  Much love! ❤
